Paid bookings with Stripe

Set a price on an event type and invitees pay for the meeting when they book it. 42min confirms the booking once Stripe reports the payment, and the money goes straight to your organization's own Stripe account. Included on the free plan, with a 0% fee from 42min.

What is a paid booking?

A paid booking is a meeting the invitee pays for while booking it. In 42min the price is set on the event type, and every link to it asks for payment, embeds and single-use links included. The invitee picks a time, fills in the booking form and pays on Stripe's checkout page, so card details never pass through 42min.

The price shows beside the time, and the time is held while the invitee pays on Stripe. The confirmation shows the amount paid and links to Stripe's receipt.

Why take payments in 42min

Booked only once paid

The meeting is booked only when Stripe reports the payment. A checkout left unfinished gives its time back after 42 minutes, and nothing unpaid reaches your calendar.

Refunds from the meeting

Refund all or part of a payment from the meeting in 42min. Canceling a paid meeting yourself refunds it automatically, and a refund made in Stripe shows on the meeting too.

Your Stripe account, 0% 42min fee

Each payment lands in your organization's own Stripe account. Stripe charges its usual processing fees, and 42min takes nothing on any plan, the free one included.

How a paid booking works

On the booking page. The price sits in the booking summary beside the date and time. Any payment terms you add appear above the button, which reads Continue to Payment. Stripe's checkout then offers the payment methods you have turned on in your Stripe Dashboard.

While the invitee pays. The time is held for 42 minutes. An invitee who goes back from the checkout lands on a page with a Pay now button, which works until the hold ends. Meetings lists the request as Awaiting payment, with a Release button if you want the time back sooner. Paid event types don't offer times that start within the next 45 minutes, so a hold always ends before its meeting would begin.

With approval or a team. If the event type also needs your approval, the invitee pays first and the request then waits for you. Declining it, or letting it expire, refunds the payment in full. On a round robin event type, every payment goes to the organization's Stripe account, whichever host is assigned.

After the booking. A rescheduled meeting keeps its payment, so nothing is charged twice. When the invitee cancels, nothing is refunded automatically: the cancellation email you get shows the amount and links to the meeting, where you decide. Analytics shows what you collected and what you refunded, in each currency, by event type and by host.

Set up payments in 4 steps

01

Connect Stripe

An admin opens Integrations, finds the Payments category and connects the organization's Stripe account. Hosts can then require payment on their own event types.

02

Turn on Require payment to book

Edit a one-on-one or round robin event type and open its Payment section. Group event types don't have one.

03

Set the price

Enter the amount and choose a currency, which starts as your Stripe account's default. Payment terms are optional and show on the booking page and on Stripe's checkout.

04

Share the link

Send it to clients or embed the booking page on your site. Invitees pay as they book, whichever way they arrive.

When to charge at booking

Any time the meeting itself is what you sell.

Coaching & consulting

A strategy call or a coaching session, paid for before it starts. If the client doesn't show up, the time you set aside is still paid for.

Lessons & tutoring

Charge per lesson in the currency your students pay in. A lesson moved to another day keeps its payment, so nobody is charged twice.

Paid consultations

Turn on approval as well, and review each request before you accept it. The client pays when booking, and a request you decline is refunded in full.

Payments FAQ

No. Payments are on the free plan, and the only other thing you need is a Stripe account. Calendly includes payments from its Standard plan, $10 per seat a month billed yearly.
